After a freak accident left Bru (lead vocals) unable to speak for over 6 weeks and facing a possible throat surgery, he realized his life needed to take a more purposeful direction. Bru had been doing slam poetry and only started singing while rehabilitating his throat. G-Smiles a local guitarist caught Bru at a spoken word open mic one night and talked him into putting his lyrics to music. Soon BJ (drums / percussion) joined the group with his long-time friend Spence (bass) and the Dog Men Poets were born. DMP has since been infusing funk, poetic lyrics, and an overall fun groove to the music scene across the south.
